File Recovery / Transfer

If you need files from a different computer, I can transfer them for you or provide a CD / DVD copy of the information.  I can recover specific data or recover all the data from the desktop as well as the folders for each users profile on the computer.  If the files are on a broken or unusable computer / laptop see 'Files from a dead computer / laptop below'

*Note* The User folders include items saved to the desktop, My Documents, My pictures, My music, My videos, etc.  I will also remove the security info from the files so the data can be used on any computer.  This includes the data from password protected profiles. (I do not require the passwords, so no worries if you have forgotten or lost them)

Files from a dead computer / laptop

I have often encountered computers that have become so infected with virii and malware that the computer simply will not boot anymore.  In many cases, people have considered it cheaper to replace the computer or hard drive than to repair it.  There's two ways I can help out.

*Note* These services can only be performed physically.  Remote services for the following are not available.

Repair the computer
I have not found a computer that could not be repaired yet.  If Windows will not boot, or even if you are getting the dreaded Blue Screen of Death, there is still hope.  Many of the repairs and fixes I perform are done outside of the OS on the computer.  Because of this, the virus files are not loaded and I can manually go in and repair or remove the issue.  In a worst case scenario where windows is damaged beyond repair, I simply replace the corrupted windows system files with the original files windows comes with.  I then update windows back to current status and make sure all the personal data is secure, so you do not lose your documents, emails, or pictures, etc.  More info can be found on the computer repair page.

Recover the lost files
If you would like to simply recover the data on the lost computer, that service is available as well.  I can recover specific data (Such as a custom folder used for photos) or simply recover all the data from the desktop as well as the folders for each user on the computer.  This data can be saved to an external hard drive or flash drive you supply, or I can copy the data to DVD's for a permanent backup. All data will be copied with the exception of the temporary internet files.  I can also recover specific data in another folder if requested.

Floppy Disk Transfer   

I also retrieve information from your 3 1/2" floppy disks and transfer it to a CD, DVD, or flash drive.  If transferring multiple disks, I place a small removable sticker with a number on each disk that is returned to you.  The number corresponds to the folder name that is on the CD / DVD I copy it to.  Contact me for more information regarding this service.
